A Reflection of the Summer
This summer gave me the opportunity to gain practical work experience in a warehouse setting, which I had no concept of before. I learned how to interact with my coworkers both as friends and coworkers; this is what made Iowa feel like a home away from home. I am very grateful that I was able to complete my practicum experience with a great company, Hog Slat, Inc.. I have gained an interest in pursuing a career within the supply chain and distribution field because of my internship this summer.
My Key Areas of Learning:

Warehouse operations: I learned the ins and outs of what makes a warehouse run. From starting out on the shipping and receiving floor, to working in inventory control, I now feel comfortable playing any role in a warehouse setting
Communication in the workplace: Working in a fast-paced environment requires learning how to effectively communicate while also moving fast. I learned how to walk and talk with forklifts passing by very quickly as it is a part of the job. The most important lesson that I took away from this learning area is to always be conscious of your surroundings.
An introduction into supply chain and distribution: As stated before, I have gained a passion to continue a career in this field and I look forward to what the future holds for me.
